A Clockwork Orange (18) + discussion

About this event

In a futuristic dystopia, Alex, a vicious young hoodlum, sleeps all day and spends his nights roaming the city with a gang of friends he calls his “droogs”. Feeding their passion for ultra-violence, the gang ruthlessly assault innocent people in the streets and in their homes. When he is finally captured by the police, Alex undergoes rehabilitation in the form of merciless rounds of aversion therapy which are every bit as brutal and horrifying as his offenses. But will his brainwashing turn Alex into a productive member of society? Legendary filmmaker Stanley Kubrick unleashes his uncompromising creative vision with this controversial adaptation of the most famous novel from Manchester writer Anthony Burgess. Combining the filmmaker’s brilliant formal mastery with Burgess’ linguistic originality and astute interrogation of individual and collective morality, A Clockwork Orange is an unforgettable depiction of social dysfunction and youth delinquency.
