Astral Dance Safety Curtain - Tour and Short Film Screening
About this event
Join Ikon at Birmingham Hippodrome for a tour of Balraj Khanna’s largest painting to date Astral Dance (2001) and a screening of The Big Bang a short film produced by the artist’s daughter Rani Khanna. This event offers a window into the journey Khanna undertook in painting the safety curtain, and marks the 25th anniversary of Khanna’s landmark commission as part of the redevelopment of Birmingham Hippodrome following their 100th anniversary. This event coincides with Lines of Flight, the first major survey exhibition of British–Indian artist Balraj Khanna (1939–2024) at Ikon Gallery (30 September 2026 - 21 February 2027).
