Erratic Batting: Karate Boogaloo at The Jam Jar
About this event
Erratic Batting presents Melbourne instrumental soul and funk group Karate Boogaloo at The Jam Jar. Sitting at the heart of Melbourne’s thriving cinematic instrumental soul scene, Karate Boogaloo bring together classic funk, jazz, Italian library music, cinematic grooves and hip hop-inspired breaks. Formed by long-time friends Henry Jenkins, Hudson Whitlock, Callum Riley and Darvid Thor, the band have been playing funk together since their school days. Drawing inspiration from influential instrumental groups including Booker T. & The M.G.’s and The Meters, the four musicians have developed a distinctive shared musical language shaped by years of performing and creating together. Karate Boogaloo previously appeared in Bristol supporting Surprise Chef at Bristol Beacon and return to the city for this headline show at The Jam Jar. The evening is presented by Bristol promoter Erratic Batting, known for an eclectic music policy spanning jazz, jungle, psych, soukous, disco, neo-classical music and more. Support and DJs are to be confirmed.
