This is the Sound of Leicester
About this event
NYJC invites young musicians (from beginner to young professional) aged 8-18 to join its series of inspirational workshops at Cosmopolitan Arts in Leicester. Work in a highly creative and supportive environment as you collectively develop your ability to play by ear and build your confidence as an improviser, composer, and band member… skills you don’t often get taught elsewhere! You will meet and connect with other enthusiastic young musicians, making creative friendships for life. We welcome ALL instrumentalists and vocalists of any style and tradition – not just jazz! No prior experience of playing jazz is needed. Participants will be divided into beginner, intermediate, and advanced groups – so you’ll always be playing with other young musicians at your level of ability. The programme takes place over the course of 4 Sundays from December 2026 to March 2027. Each day includes around 6 hours of in-person teaching (totalling at least 24 hours of contact time over the course of the programme). We don’t want anyone to miss out because they cannot afford the fees. NYJC offers means-tested bursaries for those needing financial help. This can include covering the full costs of the pro
